The proceeds, generated approximately from $15/ticket, will be
forwarded to the flood victims in Vietnam through Thanh Son
Monastery - a monastery of the Unified Buddhist Church
founded by Thich Nhat Hanh - in Harland-Four-Corners, Vermont.

**This musical event pursues a twofold objective: promoting the
Vietnamese culture within the D.C. metropolitan area and at the
same time helping the flood victims in Vietnam. The event is
organized by the Vietnamese Cultural Society of Metropolitan
Washington (VCSMW) with the support of HOPE and the assistance
of the Vietnamese Public Television (VPTV).

Part I - Folk Songs (Dan Ca) - Singer: Nguyen Thanh Van.
Performance & Lecture on "Dan Ca Quan Ho" by Le Ngoc
Chan and Ngo Anh Hien.

Part II - Pre-war and love songs composed by Pham Duy,
Nhat Bang, Vu Thanh, Pham Dinh Chuong, Ngo Thuy Mien...
with the voices of Mai Huong, Nguyen Thanh Van,
Que Thanh and with the piano accompaniments of
Nhat Bang, Le Ngoc Chan.
Sampled songs: Ve Mien Trung, Tro Ve Mai Nha Xua, Giac
Mo Hoi Huong, Thuyen Trang, Tinh Khuc Buon.

BIOGRAPHY:

Le Ngoc Chan: Graduated from Indiana University's School of
Music with a M.A. degree in piano performance and composition.
He has taught at Michigan State University, Wisconsin
Conservatory of Music, and Central Connecticut University.
Currently he enrolls in the Ethnomusicology Ph. D. program at
U.C, Berkeley. Being funded by grants from the Fulbright
Foundation and the Asian Cultural Council in NY, his doctoral
thesis studies Quan Ho Folk Songs. He and his wife, Ngo Anh
Hien (see below), founded the Larang Duo in 1999. For more
about the Larang Duo, please visit

Ngo Anh Hien: A graduate of the Saigon Conservatory of Music
and Indiana University, School of Music. She has taught western
classical music and non-western music in the same universities
with Le Ngoc Chan. She has performed solo and chamber music
with Le Ngoc Chan in Europe and North America. She was a member
of the Grand Rapids and Lansing Symphonies.

Mai Huong: A renowned singer beloved by many fans over three
decades. She often appears in musical programs with selected
songs.

Nguyen Thanh Van: A lyric tenor whose repertoire encompasses
different musical genres: from classical music and Broadway
musicals to Vietnamese folk songs. He is a member of the San
Francisco Choral Society and the Ngan Khoi Chorus. For more
information about Nguyen Thanh Van and his CD recordings,

Que Thanh: A young and distinctive voice in the D.C.
metropolitan area.

Nhat Bang: A well-known author of hundreds of popular songs
replete with Vietnamese characteristics.
